Let me introduce you to the person that played an instrumental role in launching my new career. A few years ago, when my point and shoot camera was stolen, I panicked. Our new baby was scheduled to arrive in just 1 month! I was having a difficult time deciding what camera to purchase, so my awesome friend, Laura, agreed to lend me her DSLR camera while I was in the hospital having Tyler. I subsequently purchased the same camera, honed my skills and here I am a few years later! So Laura gets to go around town telling folks that she helped me BECOME karenhalbert photography! But even without that, she’s totally amazing and her family is gorgeous inside and out! Take a look and you’ll see what I mean…
There were so many amazing images from our time with the girls and their lollipops on the steps. It was very hard to choose a favorite, but Laura and I both decided that one stands out above the rest. I’m thrilled that they are going to go big with this on a canvas and use it as art for their home. It is perfect and I know they will love it!
Here are a few of the other great images from that part of the session. I really love doing something unique with a family that reflects their spirit and personality. Everyone needs the ‘posed’ family stuff, of course, but my heart is drawn to the images that reveal the family’s heart. These moments change all too fast. Little ones that cry at the drop of a hat so passionately over being first or being without their ‘lovey’ quickly become the teens that roll their eyes at the idea of family pictures. Stopping to enjoy your family where they are today, in this moment, is my favorite part of what I do.
I love the way each daughter has their own bit of Mom and Dad shining through, wrapped in a similar but different package. The beauty of family, if you ask me.
As I was chatting with Laura after her sneak peek she confided in me that the pictures of her and her husband are some of her favorites ever. THAT makes my heart swell. If you are like me, most of your family pictures have your kids in them. And you wouldn’t want it any other way. But sometimes it is nice to reflect back on how you got here…with this guy you love so much…and stop and enjoy that for a moment too.
